Who Is Mrs. Jones
Welcome to New Providence Middle School!
I am so excited to share this year with you! I look forward to watching your mind grow as I push you to become a "how to" thinker.
I have been in the teaching profession for twelve years, spending the first ten years in early childhood, grades 3, 4 and 5, then moving to middle school teaching 6th grade. I absolutely adore New Providence Middle School! Working here has been my best decision! Prior to teaching, I worked in law enforcement and as an animal behaviorist. Science has always been a passion for me, in particular marine science. I believe my love of the ocean, and all things inside it, came from spending the first eight years of my life living on the water and traveling by boat from Virginia, where I was born, to Florida where I grew up.
I am a curious person by design. I like to ask questions and try to explore and understand as much as I can. Understanding how things work, function or are designed helps me develop a better understanding of the overall picture and how things connect to others. I believe there is never a dumb question!!! Every thought or inquisition deserves a conversation.
I married my high school sweetheart, and nearly 30 years later, we have an incredible and diverse family! With three children, two son in-laws, one daughter in-law, seven grandchildren and one cat, we tend to stay very busy. My husband and I spend as much time as we can out on the water, enjoying the beauty of Tennessee and Kentucky's rivers and lakes. Our favorite thing to do is ride our WaveRunners and just go and explore!!
What can you expect from me as a teacher?
Life is about learning and the more you learn, the more you grow! I expect you to be responsible for your learning. I ask that you learn to become a "how to" thinker rather than a "what do I do" thinker. It's easy to have someone give you all the answers, but you don't grow when that happens. You've got to be able to think through a question and then determine how you're going to solve it. For this reason, I will always ask you to explain to me what you have tried doing to solve your question prior to assisting you. It's not that I don't want to help you, it's that I am helping you, and that's where and how it starts.
I will always be consistent and fair with you. Remember that I am here to lead and guide you. Neither of us win if you do not succeed at learning. I promise to always engage you in learning opportunities and will push you to step outside your comfort zone, encouraging you to have an open mind, develop patience and become understanding of things you either do not know, or do not agree with. I am always available for help; please ask me, email me, call me, see me. I cannot help you if I do not know that you do not need the help. Most importantly, I want you to learn to LOVE the process of learning. When you are given the opportunity to learn, I want you to take it and run with it. Your life will be so much more rewarding with so many opportunities taken rather than letting them pass you by.
So....expect to learn, expect to work hard, expect to grow, expect to have fun and know that you can always count on me to do my best for you. ~Mrs. Jones
